Archiving and Digital Preservation

Everything JCEA publishes is intended to remain permanently available, whether or not the journal, its publishers or its current hosts continue to operate. This page sets out how that is achieved.

Long-term digital preservation

The full content of the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia is deposited with and preserved by NDSL, the national scholarly-information service operated by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), a government research institute of the Republic of Korea. KISTI maintains the archive independently of the journal and of its publishers, so the content survives the failure of either. The journal's preservation record is registered with the Directory of Open Access Journals.

The archived record covers the complete run of the journal, including back content published before the current publishers took over in 2012.

Hosting of the version of record

The full text of every article is hosted on KoreaScience, the open-access platform operated by KISTI, which serves the PDF version of record. This journal website provides the article landing pages, metadata, abstracts and citation export, and links to the full text on KoreaScience. Content is therefore available from more than one independently operated system at all times.

Persistent identifiers

Every article is registered with a DOI under the journal's prefix 10.17477. A DOI resolves to the current location of the article regardless of which platform hosts it, so citations remain valid if hosting arrangements change. Article metadata, including the DOI, author list, affiliations, abstract, and licence, is deposited with the DOI registration agency and distributed to indexing services.

If the journal ceases to publish

Should the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia cease publication, or should its publishers cease to operate, the published content will remain accessible through the NDSL/KISTI archive and KoreaScience under the same open-access terms, and the registered DOIs will continue to resolve. No article will be withdrawn from the record as a consequence of the journal ceasing to publish. The publishers undertake to transfer the archive to another recognised preservation service if the present arrangement can no longer be maintained.

Self-archiving by authors

Authors may deposit their articles in institutional and subject repositories without embargo. The conditions are set out on the Copyright and Licence page.

Corrections to the archived record

Published articles are never silently altered or deleted. Errors and integrity problems are addressed by publishing linked correction, retraction or expression-of-concern notices, as described in the Publication Ethics policy; the original article remains in place with its original DOI.
