Copyright and Licence

Authors keep the copyright in their articles. Every article in the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia is published open access under a Creative Commons licence, free to read and to redistribute with attribution.

Article licence

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The licence is stated on every article landing page and on the full text.

Under this licence anyone may:

copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format, in print or electronically,

provided that:

Attribution — appropriate credit is given to the author(s), a link to the licence is provided, and the article's original publication in JCEA is acknowledged;
NonCommercial — the material is not used for commercial purposes; and
NoDerivatives — if the material is remixed, transformed or built upon, the modified material may not be distributed.

Rights that are not restricted by the licence are unaffected: fair dealing and fair use, quotation, and the author's moral rights all remain. The copyright holder may grant permission for any use outside the licence terms; requests should be addressed to the corresponding author, with a copy to the editorial office.

Articles published before this policy took effect were issued under earlier versions of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs licence. The licence stated on each article page is the licence that applies to that article.

Copyright in articles

Authors retain copyright in their work. On acceptance, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and a non-exclusive licence to publish, distribute, index and archive the article under the terms above. There is no transfer of copyright to the journal or to its publishers. The copyright holder — the author or authors — is named on every article, on the article landing page and on the full text.

Copyright in this website

Copyright in this website — its design, navigation, editorial pages and compilation — belongs to the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia and its publishers, the Cyber Emotions Research Center at Yeungnam University and WATEF, and is separate from the copyright in the articles. Website material outside the articles is not covered by the article licence and may not be reproduced without permission.

Self-archiving and repository deposit

Authors may deposit their work in repositories without asking permission and without any embargo:

the submitted version (preprint) may be posted at any time, on a preprint server, a personal or institutional website, or a subject repository;
the accepted manuscript may be deposited in an institutional or subject repository, or a funder's repository, immediately on acceptance; and
the published version of record may be deposited in an institutional or subject repository, posted on the author's own or their institution's website, and included in a thesis or a book by the author, immediately on publication.

Every deposit must acknowledge first publication in the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia, cite the article's DOI, link to the version of record, and state the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. Authors are welcome, though not required, to notify the editorial office of a deposit or a reproduction at j.c.eastern.asia@gmail.com.

Authors may also enter into separate, non-exclusive arrangements for the distribution of the published version — for instance publication in an edited collection — on the same conditions.

Third-party material

Where an article reproduces figures, tables, images, extended quotations or datasets in which copyright is held by someone else, the authors are responsible for obtaining written permission before submission and for supplying the required credit line. Third-party material remains under its own terms and is not covered by the article's Creative Commons licence; where this is the case it is marked in the article.

Open access

JCEA is a fully open-access journal. All content is freely available to readers and their institutions from the moment of publication. Readers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search and link to the full text of articles without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, subject only to the licence terms above. There is no subscription, registration requirement, or pay-per-view charge of any kind, and there is no offline or print edition sold separately. Publication is funded as described under Author Fees and Business Model.

Privacy and jurisdiction

Names and email addresses entered on this site are used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and are not made available for any other purpose or to any third party. The court of jurisdiction is Daegu, Republic of Korea.
