Author Fees, Waivers and Business Model

JCEA is a fully open-access journal. Readers pay nothing, and there is no subscription of any kind. Publication is funded by institutional support from the journal's publishers and by an article processing charge payable by authors on acceptance.

Submission fees

There is no submission fee. No charge of any kind is made for submitting a manuscript, for peer review, or for a manuscript that is rejected.

Article processing charge (APC)

An article processing charge becomes payable only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication.

The charge covers editorial handling, copy-editing, XML conversion and typesetting, DOI registration, hosting and long-term preservation. It is invoiced by the editorial office after acceptance and before production. Research is treated as externally funded where a grant, contract or institutional publication fund is acknowledged in the article.

Other charges

Where an accepted manuscript requires substantial language editing beyond normal copy-editing, the journal will inform the corresponding author of the additional cost and obtain the author's agreement before that work is commissioned. No other charge is made: there are no page charges, colour charges, or charges for supplementary material.

Waivers and exemptions

The following exemptions apply and are stated here so that authors can establish their position before submitting:

Associate Editors of JCEA are exempt from the article processing charge for up to one unfunded publication per calendar year.
Scholars publishing at the invitation of the editors — invited articles, editor's notes and commissioned contributions — are exempt.

Authors who face genuine difficulty in meeting the charge should write to the editorial office at j.c.eastern.asia@gmail.com before submitting, explaining the circumstances. Requests are decided by the Editor-in-Chief. Eligibility rests with the corresponding author, who applies on behalf of all authors; a request cannot be made after acceptance, and no request is disclosed to reviewers or to the handling editor.

Neither the ability to pay an article processing charge, nor the existence of a waiver request or exemption, plays any part in editorial decision making. Editors and reviewers assess manuscripts on scholarly merit alone and are not told the fee or waiver status of a submission. Charges are raised only after a decision to accept has been taken.

Sources of revenue

JCEA is funded from two sources:

Institutional support from the journal's publishers, the Cyber Emotions Research Center at Yeungnam University (Republic of Korea) and WATEF, the World Association for Triple Helix and Future Strategy Studies, which meet the journal's editorial and platform costs; and
Article processing charges as set out above.

The journal receives no subscription, licensing, reprint or supplement revenue, and does not publish sponsored issues or sponsored articles. No source of revenue and no sponsoring body influences editorial decision making. Editorial responsibility rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team, who take decisions independently of the publishers and of any funder of the research under consideration.

Advertising

JCEA does not accept advertising. No advertisement appears on this website, in any issue, or in any article, and the journal does not sell advertising space to any party. Should this ever change, an advertising policy stating the types of advertisement accepted, who decides on acceptance, and how advertisements are separated from published content will be published on this page before any advertisement appears.

Direct marketing

The journal's direct marketing is limited to calls for papers and issue announcements, sent to authors who have previously published in or reviewed for JCEA, to members of its editorial board, and to delegates of conferences with which the journal is associated. Such messages identify the journal and its publishers accurately, describe the journal's scope, standards and charges truthfully, make no claim about impact, indexing or acceptance that is not verifiable on this website, and offer an unsubscribe route. JCEA does not carry out mass unsolicited solicitation of manuscripts, and does not engage third parties to solicit on its behalf.
