Editorial Process

JCEA follows a rigorous, multi-stage editorial process for all submitted manuscripts.

1. Pre-check

A managing editor assesses the manuscript's suitability for the journal and the qualifications of the authors, and rejects obviously substandard submissions. The Academic Editor is notified and invited to recommend reviewers.

2. Peer Review

At least two review reports are collected for each submitted article. JCEA uses single-blind review: authors do not know the reviewers' identities, but reviewers know the authors' identities. All reviewers must:

Hold no conflicts of interest with the authors
Possess a PhD
Have recent publications in the field of the submitted paper
Not have recently reviewed for JCEA journals

Reviewers are given two weeks to write their review. For the review of a revised manuscript, reviewers are asked to provide their report within three days. The full peer-review process typically takes approximately two months.

3. Editor Decision

Editors evaluate reviewer suitability, the adequacy of reviewer comments, and the scientific quality of the work. Decision options include accept, reject, request revisions, or seek additional reviewers.

4. Revision

Authors typically revise before further external review referral. Apart from exceptional circumstances, a maximum of two rounds of major revision per manuscript is allowed.

5. Production

Accepted papers undergo professional language editing, copy editing, and XML conversion. Author fees may apply for extensive editing work.

Publication Ethics

JCEA is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows its procedures for handling unethical behavior. The journal also follows CONSORT, TOP, and ACOMS guidelines.
